DEX File Example
A DEX file is an ASCII Text data set which identifies the machine which supplied the data, and delivers dozens of different pieces of data representing the activity of the machine. A sample file looks like this:
ID1*002013*EASY1 REV/01.17 MODE/8100 CS/01 MT/01*10*000001*ASC 93B
CA2*535290*9767*2300*42
CA3*3040*705*735*16*681825*219995*172030*2898
CA4*740*0*146535*0
EA2*RESETS*0
EA3*67*000000*0000*353707*093099*2138*0
PA1*A1*50
PA2*277*0*1*0
PA1*A3*50
PA2*548*0*1*0
PA1*A5*50
PA2*461*0*0*0
...
...
...
G85*1F66
Each line in the file has an identifier, like ID1, CA2, CA3, etc. This identifies what type of data the line will provide. Then each data field in each line is delimited by *. Therefore, there are 5 data fields in the ID1 line of this sample DEX file. In this case, the second data element of the ID1 line, commonly referred to as the ID102 field, is EASY1 REV/01.17 MODE/8100 CS/01 MT/01. This identifier is telling VendMAX that the file has been read from an Easy1 audit box, manufactured by Audit Systems Company. Each equipment manufacturer has registered a specific identifier which will alert the computer system as to where the file originated.
